LOTR Movie: Shouldn't the Hobbits have been shorter and fatter?
Shouldn't the hobbits in the Lord of the Rings have been shorter and fatter? I mean Frodo wasn't that tall, but he wasn't that much shorter than the other characters. And weren't the hobbits supposed to be chubby? Only the Chris Farley Hobbit, Sam Gamgee, looked porky; the others were very skinny. What was that all about?

yeah, they should be fatter; thats how Tolkien imagined them. But i dont think it's that big of a deal. the main point is that they're kid-sized. and, person below me, shut up.

I have to admit that dreyer is right in that they messed up in there size/form and feet. I always thought they would have kind of a rabbit effect in there bodily form. I mean seriously, there supposed to be these very small chubby and partially furry little ppl who lived in holes. Hmmmm... What does that sound like?

Not chubby - stocky. remember Tolkien mentions their sturdiness? For me, Sam fitted the bill, exactly - for Frodo. The rest should have been even stockier, & Merry & Pippin the sturdiest, & tallest (After Orthanc). Another thing - The feet were wrong. they should have had small neat feet, but with a thick crop of hair exactly like the hair on top of their heads: Brown, rich & curly, rather than silly clodhoppers sporting rather sparse pubic hair. A hairpiece on bare feet would have looked exactly right, & for their soles, just walking barefoot in the sun a couple of days would have given the effect of a lifetime of going barefoot. I'd like to have seen them show both the tops & the soles of their feet in the movie - it seems so fundamental feature of hobbitdom! For the sake of symmetry, I'd also have appreciated just a suggestion of the same rich curls on the backs of their hands. I suppose I'm just fired up at the thought of a hobbit going to the barber for his head & feet---.
